How To Ride
Riding transit is easy! Just review these tips below on how to make your journey on transit seamless!
Many riders use a bus pass. Passes offer the convenience of paying your fare once while being able to ride an unlimited number of times while the pass is valid. Votran offers several pass types, click here to view fare and pass information. To use a Votran pass, you must insert or swipe it at the farebox. Passes must be inserted into the card reader on the bus to be validated the first time you use it. Once validated, the pass will be stamped with the time and date of first use and of expiration. On future boardings, passes may be swiped through the card swiper on the top of the farebox. See the photos below to know how and where to insert or swipe your pass. Most buses have these fareboxes, however some of our newer buses are different. If you're ever not sure how to pay your fare, just ask the bus operator for assistance.
The clock starts running on all passes the first time you insert them into the card reader. This means if you purchase a pass not on a bus, it won't be activated until you use it the first time.
When attempting to use any Reduced Fare pass or fare, riders must have proper identification verifying that they are eligible for the reduced fare rate.

Bus stops are marked by a sign showing a bus and the Votran logo. Plan to arrive a few minutes early. When the bus comes toward you, check the sign over the windshield which shows the route number and destination to make sure it is the route you want to ride going in the direction you want to go. Signal the driver by raising your hand and the bus will stop for you. Remember, the bus will only stop at designated bus stops or at the far side of an intersection along the route. The bus will not stop in the middle of the block.
Each bus stop also has a unique ID number and blue/white tag located on the pole. This number will not only identify the bus stop and correspond to the MyStop Mobile App but can be used by the Vo-To-Go text system. If you need to know when the next bus will arrive at that stop, follow the instructions on the Vo-To-Go tag.
1. In the phone number field, type the number 321-123
2. In the message field, type VO#### (the number of the bus stop you're waiting at).
3. You'll recieve an automated text back with the next departure from that stop.
Please find a seat quickly. Bus courtesy is to leave the front seats vacant for senior citizens or people with disabilities who may board after you.
Votran is unable to transport surfboards or any article that will block the aisle. All buses are equipped with bike racks, but are first come, first served.
